One of the "big five" African game, they are sometimes referred to as "the Black Death" or "the Widow-maker," and is widely regarded in South Africa as a very dangerous animal. With this sculpture I was keen to capture the aura of menace that Buffalo are notorious for. 'Texas the Buffalo', who was not just any buffalo but the pride of a herd residing in the Waterberg District Municipality, South Africa, had a very powerful presence and, I was told, quite a hot temper. Dominant males can be identified by the size of their horns and Texas was mightily impressive on that score.
