Bronze Edition Sculptures

Peregrine Falcons are the fastest animals in the world. Due to their aerodynamic shape, they can reach diving speeds of 390 km/h. The B-2 Bomber was designed taking inspiration direct from the form a falcon takes whilst in a dive. This speed, alongside their trainability, has made them one of the most popular birds among Falconry enthusiasts world wide.

Knox was commissioned to create this piece in early 2024, a challenge he relished. With a research trip to The falconry School in Gloucester run by the brilliant Ben Long, Knox commenced creating his Peregrine falcon perched on a gauntlet sculpture. It was his aim to create a piece that was true to life, not only in representation, but in the actions and dynamics of the scene. With Ben's advice ever present in his mind, Knox composed the armature for his sculpture and got to work.

A rare sighting of this secretive mammal is often a source of excitement for many. I took great pleasure in creating this piece. It was composed in a way to capture the lithe and fluid movement of the Otter in its natural environment.

African elephants, among the world's largest land animals, face many threats, including habitat loss and ivory poaching. This sculpture, aimed as a tribute to the magnificence of these gentle giants, emphasises the importance of safeguarding their existence. African elephants play a pivotal role in maintaining the ecological balance of their environments by acting as keystone species, creating water holes and dispersing seeds.

This project was a favourite of mine. The piece was auctioned at London's William and Son, where art enthusiasts and philanthropists bid to raise awareness and funds for The Waterburg Rhino Charity, an organisation that works to the conservation of endangered rhinos and the broader preservation of African wildlife.

It was my aim with this piece to capture the motion of a Woodcock's flight in sculptural form. This often plump wading bird becomes a collection of seamlessly elegant lines when its' wings are at full span. A bird who's numbers are diminishing due to loss of habitat, this British resident can be seen wintering all around the UK, not to mention the woods next to my studio.

Blackbuck, antelopes indigenous to the plains of India, are striking creatures. Their ridged and spiralling horns set them apart, along with the highly contrasting shades of the male's coat. I had the great pleasure of being invited to observe a herd of them at Watatunga Sanctuary, Norfolk. Wily and quick, they are extremely camera shy, but it was a wonderful experience seeing them in the flesh and one that offered a great deal of inspiration for the future.

After being approached by organisers of the MiCannes Media Festival in Cannes, France, I had the pleasure of creating this small portrait which went on to become the official award for the event. Large cats are a well loved subject of sculptors. This piece was designed to capture the calm yet shrewd expression of a globally recognised predator.

In 2022 a project was initiated by my Gallery, Rowles Fine Art, Ludlow, to create a life-size sculpture of a Red Grouse. What made working on this piece especially exciting was the way in which I was able to access real time feedback from an engaged audience through a live sculpting demonstration at the prestigious Game Fair at Ragley Hall. The in-depth knowledge and passion of the people there was a true boon to the project and I very much enjoyed the experience.

A distinctive animal native to sub-Saharan Africa, the 'Common' Warthog is visually anything but. With their intriguing facial bone structure and stout body they have a glorious character. This was a private commission for an enthusiast of the species and it was a real joy to sculpt.

'Leaping Tiger' is one of a series of sculptures of large cats, a favourite subject of mine. The piece was designed to represent the final moments of a hunt.

One of the "big five" African game, they are sometimes referred to as "the Black Death" or "the Widow-maker," and is widely regarded in South Africa as a very dangerous animal. With this sculpture I was keen to capture the aura of menace that Buffalo are notorious for. 'Texas the Buffalo', who was not just any buffalo but the pride of a herd residing in the Waterberg District Municipality, South Africa, had a very powerful presence and, I was told, quite a hot temper. Dominant males can be identified by the size of their horns and Texas was mightily impressive on that score.

Orangutans, often referred to as "Man of the Forest" in Malian, are remarkably expressive and intelligent primates, offering a glimpse into our evolutionary origins. I aimed to capture the playful and inquisitive essence of these forest-dwelling creatures, blending their seemingly effortless strength with their curious nature and dexterity.

There's nothing quite like the calculating stare of a large feline predator. I aimed to capture the intense and awe-inspiring presence of a tiger as it exudes both stillness and menace while stealthily stalking its prey.

The shoebill stork is indeed a remarkable and prehistoric-looking bird native to the wetlands and swamps of Central Africa. It is known for its distinctive and extraordinary appearance.

The shoebill stork's most striking feature is its large, shoe-shaped bill, which can grow up to a foot in length. This bill is characterised by a sharp hook at the end and is used primarily for capturing prey, mainly fish and amphibians. The bird's overall appearance, with its tall stature, grey-blue plumage, and intense, piercing gaze, adds to its unique and intimidating presence.

Today, the Jersey is the second largest breed of dairy cattle in the world. On Jersey itself there are fewer than 6000 in total and no other breeds of cow at all. A strict ban on imports has protected the purity of the breed on the island for some 150 years.

Working from life with Jersey cows was a real pleasure. With their almost caricature like physiques, they made for a fascinating study. Each Cow was remarkably different from the next so I decided to concentrate on a particularly curious one and go from there.

Two Staffordshire Bull Terriers up in Yorkshire, Lettuce and Lily, made fine subjects, although the elderly one declined to get out of bed whilst the younger wouldn't sit still for longer than 2 seconds. A great challenge and one that was helped enormously by the client welcoming me into their home to work from life.

Sculpting a mother hen and her brood was a tricky yet satisfying experience. I wanted to inject some humour into this scene as well as portraying a realistic scenario. Hen's are so wonderfully distinctive in character and are a key presence when one imagines a farmyard scene.

Encountering a fallow deer while strolling through the English countryside is an exceptionally memorable experience. It's almost certain that the deer will have noticed your presence first, its senses finely tuned, preparing for a swift escape. This is what I aimed to capture with this sculpture; the fleeting moment of mutual acknowledgment between you and the deer, just before it gracefully retreats into the woodland.

Rhinoceros are fast being poached to extinction and we are facing a future without these beautiful creatures. For this reason I was delighted to be commissioned for this project, sculpting a Rhino lovingly known as Erwin.

Having grown up in the South Downs National Park I was fortunate enough to catch regular glimpses of local hares. However, it was never for long as, before I knew it, they would be off at blistering speed. Their aloof character makes them a difficult yet highly rewarding subject to study.

It is always an enjoyable challenge capturing the distinct character and vigour of a dog. Often very willing models, I enjoy sculpting dogs of all breeds.

The composition of this sculpture was intended to showcase the spritely hummingbird in its natural habitat. Whilst they are the smallest breed of bird in the world, they are often eye catchingly bright in colour.

What can you say about sculpting a pug other than what good fun it was as a project. This little dog packed more punch than a shot of whisky and was a very jolly presence in the studio.

This small tiger portrait was born from my fondness of big cat species. Whilst I've done a number of different large feline breeds the Tiger is definitely a favourite. Their large size and distinctive colour make this predator an exciting subject. I aimed, with this piece, to showcase the calm and impassive gaze of a tiger at rest.

I am fascinated by sharks, Great Whites in particular. I feel captivated by their slow fluid movements and ominous power in the water.

Great White sharks are renowned for their streamlined bodies, allowing them to glide effortlessly through the water. Their size, with some individuals reaching over 20 feet in length, and their powerful, muscular bodies contribute to their image as apex predators. Sharp, serrated teeth are perfectly adapted for capturing and holding on to prey, further emphasising their dominance in the ocean.
